Statelessnesss is a world wide issue affecting an estimated 15 million people in at least 60 countries.

Some people are de jure stateless which means that they are stateless in law whilst aothers are de facto stateless which means they are effectively stateless.

The difficulties they face are usually the same – they are not allowed to work or marry and have little or no access to education and health services.

In Britain stateless people are usually de facto stateless. They tend to be people who have come here in search of safety and been refused asylum but are unable to return to their home country

We are a group of people, some of whom stateless, who are trying to get the issue of statelessness recognised and changed. We network with organisations involved in  challenging this around the world but we concentrate mainly on statelessness in Britain.

Our campaign has three main aims

to change public perception

to change the policies which create statelessness

to respect stateless people

We are very concerned at the individual human suffering which statelessness causes and at the international trend to tighten borders and to criminalise those fleeing from persecution.

If you would like to get involved we would love to hear from you
